Rameswaram, Tamilnadu (India)

Rameswaram is a town in the Ramanathapuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is on Pamban Island separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel. Pamban Bridge is a cantilever bridge on the Palk Strait that connects Rameswaram to mainland India.
A perfect place for a small weekend trip for the people who love to visit historical/mythological places.

WHY RAMESWARAM
Those who are interested in Indian history and mythological stories, they must visit Rameswaram. Before going Rameswaram you must read about the mythological stories of Rameswaram(available online) so you can relate the stories once you visit the places like Agni Theertham, Rama theertham,Lakshmana theertham, sita theertham, villundi theertham. In Villunditheertham there is a beautiful beach to see.

RameshwaramJyotirlinga is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Rama Setu or Adam's Bridge in Dhanuskoti is another attraction which was mentioned in Ramayana, made by vanarsenas.

HOW TO REACH
It is well connected by train and by road with the main  cities in india like Chennai, Coimbatore, Thanjavur and Trichy. The nearest airport is in Madurai, 163 km.  The train ride  to Rameswaram is very nice as the train will cross the sea to reach Rameswaram Island. It is always advisable to reserve the railway ticket  if you are planning to travel by train.

By road also you will cross the road bridge to reach the island. You can book cab or buses are available from Chennai, Madurai or Coimbatore to reach Rameswaram.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
There are many hotels/Dharmashala available. Three stars hotels to the budget hotel all options are there. Min starting rate Rs.500 per night for a single room.
Many Restaurants are there. Mostly all are vegetarian as this is a Hindu pilgrim place. But Also Non-veg foods are available in some places.
